Steelers part ways with offensive assistants David Corley, Frisman Jackson

The Steelers are making some major offensive staff moves to kick off the off season. The team is parting ways with several offensive assistants.

Multiple reports out of Pittsburgh indicate that the team released David Corley, who was assistant quarterbacks, along with receivers coach Frisman Jackson. Plus, the team will not keep Matt Tomsho who worked as a quality control assistant for the offense.

The Steelers fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada back in November. It was the first time the team terminated a coach during the middle of a season since the start of World War II. Pittsburgh hired Arthur Smith, the former Falcons coach, as its new offensive coordinator last month.

The Steelers have not announced the news, as yet. But the three assistants no longer are listed on the team web site.

Corley coached in Pittsburgh for the past two seasons. It was a frenetic year for the position. Kenny Pickett missed the last part of the season because of a high ankle sprain. Mitch Trubisky first replaced Pickett in the lineup. Then Mason Rudolph replaced Trubisky. With Rudolph under center, the Steelers secured a wildcard berth.

Meanwhile, Jackson’s receivers also had shaky seasons. Both George Pickens and Diontae Johnson came under fire for bad effort plays.

The Steelers finished 29th in the NFL in scoring.
