The Philadelphia Eagles do love to take care of their own when they can. That was a point that both Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni hammered home when I spoke with them at the NFL Combine. And it turns out they weren’t just blowing smoke. The Eagles will be bringing back an important seven-year veteran as NFL free agency begins today.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Eagles have reached an agreement with their long-time kicker, Jake Elliott. He’ll be reportedly signing a $24 million dollar contract extension. That $6 million average per year (APY) ties him for the league lead with Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens.

Jake Elliott was already one of the most consistent kickers in the NFL prior to last season, but in 2023 he had his best season yet. Elliott set a new Eagles record with his 61-yard field goal that gave the Eagles a victory over the Giants in Week 2. He connected on 94% of his field goal attempts. And he even set a career record for touchback percentage on kickoffs (80%).
It was clear that Elliott took his entire game another level last season, so it’s nice to see the Eagles take care of him, making him the highest paid kicker alongside one of the best to ever do it (Justin Tucker, Ravens).
The deal could potentially keep Elliott with the Eagles through the 2028 season. Yes, $6 million per year for a kicker may feel like a lot now, but top tier assets on special teams win games in critical moments. And it’s nice to see one of the best Eagles get rewarded for his consistently excellent results on the field.
