Is it the 2021-22 season all over again? Rumors are swirling once more about Russell Wilson potentially making a move to the Big Apple. The New York Giants are back in the conversation as a possible landing spot for the former Seattle Seahawks star.
With the Denver Broncos expected to part ways with Wilson soon, he’ll have the freedom to choose his next team. NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks sees the Giants as an attractive destination for the Super Bowl-winning quarterback if he hits free agency.
Could new Giants GM Joe Schoen be interested in bringing Wilson in to challenge Daniel Jones for the starting role?
While Wilson is currently not available for trade, if Denver releases him and he’s open to signing a team-friendly deal, the Giants might want to explore the possibility of adding him to their roster. Wilson’s tenure in Denver was underwhelming, and it’s evident that the Broncos are moving on to other options at quarterback.
On the Giants’ front, both Brian Daboll and Schoen have expressed their commitment to Jones as the starter. However, speculation persists that the team could target a new QB with their sixth overall pick in the draft.
Alternatively, selecting a dynamic wide receiver like Rome Odunze or Malik Nabers could also inject energy into the offense. If the Giants opt to address the quarterback position later in the draft, signing a veteran in free agency could alter their strategy.
Last season with the Broncos, Wilson posted solid numbers, throwing for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. However, his relationship with the team soured towards the end of the season due to contract disputes.
Looking ahead, it’s unlikely that Russell Wilson will remain in Denver, paving the way for his departure to a new franchise. Could a move to New York or New Jersey be in the cards for him and his wife Ciara? Only time will tell, but don’t hold your breath just yet.
