The Minnesota Vikings have a tough decision on their hands when it comes to building a competitive team in the NFC North. Not only have the Detroit Lions emerged as an NFC superpower, but the Green Bay Packers’ rebuild was accelerated by Jordan Love’s blossoming as a quality quarterback.
While they enjoyed plenty of regular-season success under Kirk Cousins, the belief is high around the organization that the team is likely looking in another direction when it comes to the man under center.
Some believe that GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will be looking at the draft to acquire the talent they badly need. However, one rumor is suggesting an incredible deal that could secure their long-term solution to the position.
Minnesota Vikings to trade for the New England Patriots’ #3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft
The Spun’s Andrew Holleran reported that the Vikings have been talking with the New England Patriots about a potential trade that would send the #3 pick their way in exchange for a future first-round pick and potentially one of their star players.
Popular media personality Colin Cowherd talked about the potential terms of the deal:
“What does New England desperately need? A playmaker,” Colin Cowherd said. “I’ll give you next year’s [first-round pick] and Justin Jefferson to go from 11 to 3, because they’ve already got Jordan Addison, they’ve got the tight end [T.J. Hockenson] they like. They’ve got skill players. Next year’s one and Justin Jefferson to move up to the number three spot to get your quarterback.”
Both teams are looking to rebuild after their disappointing seasons, so finding weapons through the draft is one way they could ensure their success. Both squads require solid quarterback play, and the incoming rookie class has plenty of high-ceiling prospects that they could nurture into quality starters.
For the Minnesota Vikings to approach the New England Patriots about such a deal shows that they may have found their future QB in the draft and want to ensure their chances of getting it. While they would have to pay a king’s ransom to get the pick (which could include sending Jefferson away), securing their QB of the future is more important.
