Marquise Brown Reveals Why He Signed With The Chiefs

Over the course of the 2023 NFL season, the one glaring problem for the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs was at the wide receiver position, as superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t have that real threat in the passing game outside of veteran tight end Travis Kelce.

Fortunately for Kansas City, the team was still able to get into the NFL playoffs and go the distance to become the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles since Tom Brady’s New England Patriots, meaning it wasn’t as much of a problem as people thought it was.

However, it is still an issue the Chiefs wanted to address during the NFL offseason as they aim to become the first time in NFL history to win three Super Bowl titles in a row.

That said, the Chiefs couldn’t have a better opportunity to upgrade the wide receiver position, with the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft stacked with talent at wideout, while there were also plenty of veterans available once NFL free agency got underway last week.

Ultimately, the Chiefs sent some shockwaves throughout the league by signing former Arizona Cardinals star Marquise Brown, who is a considerable upgrade at wide receiver.

According to Nate Taylor of The Athletic, Brown recently revealed why he chose to sign with Kansas City in free agency.

“Pat was a big part of it, Coach Reid, a winning culture…. All of those things played a part. They were strong on me, so there was mutual interest,” Brown said.

With the Chiefs being one of the most consistent teams in the NFL with a winning culture in place and having Mahomes under center and Andy Reid calling the shots, it is kind of a no-brainer that a talented wide receiver would want to sign with Kansas City, especially when they have a need at the position.

Last season, Brown caught 51 passes for 574 receiving yards and four touchdowns for the Cardinals in 14 games.
