In an electrifying performance during Saturday’s NBA action, Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic etched his name into the record books. The Mavs emerged victorious over the Detroit Pistons with a 142-124 victory, bolstered by Doncic’s historic achievement.
Doncic recorded six consecutive 30-point triple-doubles, a first in the NBA, surpassing Russell Westbrook‘s previous record.
“I mean, it’s good, as long as we get the win,” Doncic said. “We got two wins now in a row, so we gotta keep going like that.”
Doncic finished the night with 39 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds, also extending his record with a fifth consecutive 35-point triple-double. His performance underlines his exceptional talent and versatility on the court.
“That just shows what level he’s playing on right now,” Mavs coach Jason Kidd said. “He knows he can score the ball, and he’s also able to find his teammates and lastly, he’s able to rebound the ball.”
Kyrie Irving contributed 21 points to the Mavericks’ win, marking their second consecutive victory after breaking a three-game losing streak.
The Pistons, despite a strong performance from Cade Cunningham with 33 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds, faced their 10th loss in 12 games. Simone Fontecchio, who scored a career-high 27 points, felt the strain of guarding Doncic after teammate Ausar Thompson had to leave the game due to illness.
“That definitely had an impact,” Fontecchio said. “I had to guard him when (Thompson) went out, and I’ve said it before – he’s an elite defender.”
The Mavericks held a slim lead at halftime but pulled away in the second half, thanks to a strong third quarter and timely three-pointers from Tim Hardaway Jr. The game became contentious in the fourth quarter, leading to a scuffle involving multiple players, but the Mavericks maintained their lead and secured the win.
“We just couldn’t score – we had seven turnovers in the third quarter – and no one played defense,” Pistons coach Monty Williams said. “We didn’t and they didn’t.”
The Mavericks look forward to their next game against the Chicago Bulls, while the Pistons will host the Charlotte Hornets, both teams aiming to build on their performances.
