Joe Flacco named a finalist for an award he no doubt deserves

Joe Flacco’s 2023 season was one for the history books.

Now, the Cleveland Browns season savior is up for an award. On Thursday, Flacco was named a finalist for The Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year.

In five regular-season games, Flacco completed 123-of-204 passes for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns. More importantly, he led the Browns to a 4-1 record and a playoff appearance when postseason hopes looked dim at best.

Flacco earned a cult-like following in Cleveland for his play. However, his play fell off in the Browns’ playoff loss to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round.

The veteran quarterback is faced with the possibility of returning to the Browns if general manager Andrew Berry elects to resign him.

Flacco has recently spoken highly of his time in Cleveland. He also said he would be open to returning if the opportunity presented itself.

Also nominated as a finalist for the award are Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
