Green Bay Packers legend Gilbert Brown is a passionate and proud individual. A member of the Packers Hall of Fame, there are few former players that are seen in and around Lambeau Field than Brown, who still meets and greets fans at Stadium View Bar and Grill before every home game. Indeed, one would be hard-pressed to find anyone who carries the G as well as him.
Throughout the course of the 2023 NFL season, Brown co-hosted the Go Dads Go podcast with myself and Brian Maafi of Cheesehead TV and the ATB Network. Brown provided insight and analysis that only a former player can give.
On Tuesday, we recorded the final episode of the 2023 season with Gilbert to breakdown the Super Bowl, the Packers’ coaching changes, and other storylines surround the NFL. One of these was a recent thread on social media posted by former Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Will Compton. After the Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious in Super Bowl LVIII, Compton posted that the NFL is rigged and that, as a former player, his claims should be believed.
As a co-host of the popular yet controversial Bussin’ with the Boys podcast with Barstool Sports, Compton is no stranger to making or being affiliated with controversial statements (remember when they asked Aaron Rodgers how many grandmothers he thinks he killed by not getting vaccinated?). However, this statement he made had Brown fired up in his response.
Former Las Vegas Raiders Linebacker Will Compton Makes Controversial Claim About the NFL Being Scripted
For context, here are the posts Compton made regarding the NFL being scripted:
NFL is basically the WWE now.
All scripted. Fixed. They pick who they want to win.
It’s all for entertainment & honestly I don’t even know why I watch & care so much.
It’s all fake.

Yes.
I did it for 10 years.
(Actually 9. Roger wanted to have fun with the 10th year.) https://t.co/UoTCte5CoC

When asked about these posts on Go Dads Go, Brown had a strong message for the former linebacker.
Green Bay Packers Legend Gilbert Brown Has Emphatic Answer to “Is the NFL Scripted?” Questions
Brown had not even heard of Compton before the episode was recorded, and when finding out about his relatively pedestrian NFL career, Brown said:
“Well, I’m going to say it right now. Will Compton, you just go my first Dumb*** Award. I mean, how could you say that man? C’mon. Dudes put their lives on the line to play the game, and you mean to tell me you’re going to script someone getting hurt?
“You mean to tell me that you’re going to script something like my man [Damar Hamlin] last year for the Bills? You’re going to script that? That’s a slap in everybody’s face that ever played the game.
“Will Compton, you are a dumb***!
“They should strip him from every single football thing he has ever done for saying something like that. Here’s the thing, I scripted tearing my bicep so I can play the whole year on one arm? You’re a jack***, Will Compton.”
Brown goes on to explain that if the NFL was scripted, he would be able to finally watch video from Super Bowl XXXII, which he and the Packers lost to the Denver Broncos. To this day, he still has not watched any film from that game because the loss hurt too much.
Let’s face it: we live in a society and in a time where the Internet and social media allows for conspiracy theories to form and spread quickly. Unfortunately, we also live in a society where people often fail to do their own research.
If the NFL was truly scripted, why would the league have killed Corey Stringer during Minnesota Vikings training camp in 2001 (he unfortunately died of a heat stroke)? Why would former players who suffer from CTE sign up that? The tens of millions of dollars fans think every NFL player has is not the reality for most the league.
It’s truly a stupid claim.
