The Green Bay Packers have a one of a kind opportunity this off-season. One of the teams’ biggest needs in 2024 just happens to be Safety. In recent memory, there hasn’t been a richer Safety free agent class than the one in 2024.
However, one Safety was just released that could immediately jump to the top of the Packers’ list.
Green Bay Packers Get Incredible Free Agent News Ahead Of New League Year
There is a flood of safety candidates in the NFL’s 2024 free agent market.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Denver Broncos have released Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons. Later, the move was announced by the team.
“Justin Simmons’ impact as a Denver Bronco extends far beyond his exceptional play during eight seasons with our organization,” the Broncos said in a statement.
“Justin will always be a Bronco, and we thank him for the outstanding manner in which he represented our organization on and off the field. We wish Justin, his wife Taryn, and their children Laney, Shae and Kyler the very best in the future.”
Justin Simmons Would Be A Dream Addition For The Packers
Simmons has been playing consistently well for the past few years. Every season since 2019, he has earned a Pro Bowl or All-Pro nod while racking up 23 interceptions, 51 passes defended, and five forced fumbles.
Although he’s a ballhawk, the former third-round pick is more than that. It is evident from the 297 solo tackles he has made since the beginning of 2019 that he is a very reliable last line of defense. Simmons’ value to the Packers should be through the roof as a result of the tackling problems they endured last year, especially in the playoffs.
Green Bay has a fantastic chance to address this issue given the latest safety developments on the open market. Simmons is the latest Safety to join the list of big names who have been released recently, including Jamal Adams, Jordan Poyer, and Quandre Diggs. Other free agents include Xavier McKinney and Kyle Dugger.
Even with all those big names in free agency, it’s hard to put anyone about Justin Simmons at the moment.
