Philadelphia Eagles fans will have to wait for beloved center Jason Kelce to make up his mind on retirement, but they won’t have to wait too much longer.
Kelce joined Shaquille O’Neal’s “The Big Podcast with Shaq” on Monday where he gave an update on when he plans to announce his decision.
“Still figuring it out,” Kelce said. “I think if I still want to play, I’m going to play. I think right now we’re not far enough away from the last game. It’s emotional, it’s a long season, the end of the season quite frankly, awful. So I’m just going to take some time, rest, recoup and then figure it out. I think I’ll have an answer in the next couple weeks.”
The Eagles’ 2023 season didn’t end the way many would have expected it to after their 10-1 start to the year. If Kelce were to throw in the towel in the coming weeks, his last game in midnight green would be the Eagles’ 32-9 blowout playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That’s just not the way he deserves to go out, though he said last month that he wouldn’t want anyone to feel bad for him if it was considering he’s had a great overall career, which has included seven Pro Bowl nods, six All-Pro honors and a Super Bowl LII ring.
While we await Kelce’s final retirement decision, one thing is for sure — he could use a lot of rest and a hard reset after partying it up in Las Vegas all week for Super Bowl LVIII in support of his brother Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs.
