Eagles Lost Control After ‘Big Dom’ Suspension?

How large did the absence of Dom DiSandro loom for the Philadelphia Eagles in their final six games? Excuse the pun, but the answer is pretty big.

The suspension for “Big Dom,” the team’s chief security officer, came after the Week 13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, where DiSandro found himself in the spotlight for his quick physical altercation with Niners linebacker Dre Greenlaw on the Philly sideline.

Eagles Lost Control After 'Big Dom' Suspension?

This loss was the beginning of an awful season-ending stretch for the Eagles, but per reports from Derrick Gunn of JAKIB Sports, the suspension of “Big Dom,” also had a significant impact on the team’s 1-5 record to conclude the season.

Gunn tweeted: “Big Dom suspended-controls Sirianni’s emotions on the sideline; in his absence, Nick [got] in numerous arguments with players/coaches during games.”

The squabble on the Eagles’ sideline not only saw Disandro and Greenlaw both get ejected from the game but would later result in the suspension of the Eagles’ security officer for the remainder of the regular season by the NFL.

As weird as what unfolded in that 42-19 loss to the Niners, so was what followed. After starting the season with an impressive 10-1 record, seemingly repeating the same path they had the year before, the Eagles would lose five of their final six games before a 32-9 playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card.

After serving his suspension, “Big Dom” returned to the Eagles sideline for that playoff game, but even he couldn’t reverse the Eagles’ fortunes.

At the end of the day, the suspension of DiSandro, regardless of the reported impact it had on Sirianni, had a minimal effect on what was already set to be a lost season.

Time will tell if the Eagles can bounce back. “Big Dom” will presumably be back on the sideline in 2024, and they’ll have new coordinators in Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio hoping to right the ship of their respective units.
