The Philadelphia Eagles have locked in special teams coordinator Michael Clay beyond 2024 with a new contract extension, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Friday.
“Eagles special teams coordinator Michael Clay, one of Philly’s impressive young coaches, has agreed to terms on a new contract extension, source said. His units were among the top in the NFL. Now all coordinators — Clay, Vic Fangio and Kellen Moore — are locked up beyond 2024,” Rapoport wrote on X/Twitter.

Under Clay this past year, Eagles special teams ranked first across the league in overall DVOA and punt return yards.
Clay is credited for Britain Covey and Jake Elliott’s near-perfect seasons as Covey finished with the second-most yards per punt return (14.4) in the NFL and Elliot made 30 of 32 field goals, including 14 straight successful attempts.

The 2023 season was a massive turnaround from Clay’s 2022 season when his special teams unit ended the year ranked 13th overall.
Clay’s new contract details have not yet been reported but the extension is well deserved as he was the only consistent bright spot on this Eagles team last year.
