The Philadelphia Eagles granted All-Pro pass rusher Haason Reddick permission to seek a trade last week, however, a few days later Reddick broke his silence on the report and said that he never asked for a trade.
Reddick even went as far as to tell Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, “I would like to get an extension done here at home.”
Reddick, 29, signed a three-year, $45 million contract extension with the Eagles in 2022 and enters the final year of his deal in 2024. He is expected to make $16 million next season, but none of that money is guaranteed.
He’ll be looking for a raise.
Will Reddick return to the Eagles in 2024?
Whether or not Reddick returns to Philly is one of the biggest offseason questions.
According to Eagles insiders at NBC Sports, Reuben Frank and Dave Zangaro, Reddick will stay.
Both cite that Reddick’s age could be a major factor in the Eagles’ ultimate decision as he turns 30 in September, but they also point out that aging doesn’t seem to be slowing him down anytime soon.
“I feel like this will get done,” Frank wrote.”… He certainly didn’t have the season he had in 2022. But then again, how much of that was due to coaching issues and the way he was used? Bottom line is Reddick is still a very good edge rusher, and the Eagles need him, and I expect Reddick’s camp and [Howie] Roseman to find some common ground and get a deal done.”
Reddick remained a consistent bright spot in the Eagles’ lackluster defense this past year. He played in all 17 games and finished the 2023 regular season registering 38 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, and a pass defended.
Zangaro agrees with Frank and believes keeping him on the team is the smartest move to make if they’re thinking about another post-season run.
“The Eagles are a team in the hunt to win a Super Bowl and Reddick might be their best defensive player,” Zangaro wrote. “It’s not worth it to trade a guy like that with his ability to get after quarterbacks. Ultimately, I think Reddick and the Eagles find a way to keep him in Philly for another couple of seasons.”
Zangaro also predicts that Reddick will sign a two-year $45 million deal.
“How about a two-year, $45 million deal?” he adds. “That gets Reddick over the $20 million mark but doesn’t reset the market. That seems fair.”
If Reddick really wants to stay in Philadelphia, then he should be open to making a deal like that work.
