Eagles’ Fletcher Cox offers update on possible retirement

Eagles defensive lineman Fletcher Cox has played all 12 years for the City of Brotherly Love, so it isn’t crazy for him to start getting questions in regards to his retirement.

On the “Up and Adams Show” during Super Bowl LVIII Radio Row week, Cox said he’s taking things “day by day” regarding his future with the Eagles.

Eagles' Cox offers update on possible retirement

Cox signed a 1-year, $10 million deal last season.

Last season, Cox turned back time, totaling 33 tackles, five sacks, 17 quarterback hits and two passes defended in 15 total games played.

Mirroring a Pro Bowl-type season from years prior in his career, Cox failed to reach the Pro Bowl this past season and has not reached one since 2020. Cox has also not made an All-Pro list since 2018.

General manager Howie Roseman has been preparing for when Cox does announce his retirement. For the past two years, the Eagles have drafted defensive tackles Jordan Davis (2022) and Jalen Carter (2023)

Carter was runner-up in this year’s Defensive Rookie of the Year voting at the NFL Honors.

Cox has regressed down the stretch in an overall productive career, and it’s certainly possible Philadelphia may be without him for the 2024 season.
