Eagles Could Steal Running Back Away From Division Rival

The Philadelphia Eagles need to decide what they are going to do at running back this offseason, as D’Andre Swift is set to hit free agency and may price himself out of their range.

The Eagles typically don’t overpay for halfbacks, as evidenced by the fact that they allowed Miles Sanders to walk last spring.

Taking that into consideration, Philadelphia may explore low-risk, potentially high-reward options, much like it did last year when it swung a trade with the Detroit Lions to acquire Swift.

Eagles Could Steal Running Back Away From Division Rival

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks Philly may turn to an NFC East division rival for its backfield answer, and no; that player is not New York Giants star Saquon Barkley.

It’s Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard, who seems unlikely to re-sign with the Cowboys next month.

Knox predicts that Pollard will land a one-year, $6.5 million deal in free agency, which is exactly the type of contract the Eagles would likely feel comfortable handing out to their next featured back.

Pollard is coming off of a rather disappointing 2023 campaign in which he played every game and rushed for 1,005 yards and six touchdowns while averaging a pedestrian four yards per carry. He added 55 catches for 311 yards.

While those numbers aren’t terrible by any means, they are not what Dallas expected from Pollard after he made the Pro Bowl thanks to an incredibly efficient season the year prior.

As a result, the Cowboys will probably look for an upgrade, whereas the Birds may feel that they can reignite Pollard in Philadelphia.

It should also be noted that Pollard underwent fibula surgery last offseason, so perhaps he simply needed a full year to truly recover.

Whatever the case may be, Pollard definitely seems like he would be right up Philly’s alley.
