Eagles add running back depth, sign former 49ers third-round pick

The Philadelphia Eagles added some running back depth on Tuesday, signing former San Francisco 49ers third-round pick Tyrion Davis-Price to a reserve/future contract.

Davis-Prices’ agency, Elite Loyalty Sports, was the first to announce the move on Twitter/X.

“Congratulations to our very own Tyrion Davis-Price on signing the biggest R/Future contract in the league The best contract out of 396 this year.

“Don’t mind him, just writing history. Ball out in Philadelphia, TY!” a representative from the agency posted on X.

Davis-Price was initially selected by the 49ers in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft.

He appeared in six games during his rookie year, carrying the ball 34 times for 99 yards. This past season, Davis-Price had just six rushes for 21 yards in his lone regular-season appearance. He was released from the team in December and re-signed to the practice squad.

The former LSU product joins the Eagles at a perfect time since three of their running backs are set to hit free agency come March, including D’Andre Swift, Boston Scott and Rashaad Penny. That leaves Kenneth Gainwell as the only back under contract next season. Davis-Price could have the opportunity to compete for a larger role this offseason.

An NFL team will sign players who are not on the 53-man roster to reserve/futures deals at the end of the season to keep them from negotiating with other teams.

The Eagles have now signed a total of 22 players to new reserve/futures contracts:

DB Tristin McCollum
DB Tiawan Mullen
WR Joseph Ngata
RB Lew Nichols
G Jason Poe
DT Thomas Booker
OL Le’Raven Clark
WR Shaquan Davis
TE E.J. Jenkins
DE Tarron Jackson
C Lecitus Smith
OL Brett Toth
WR Austin Watkins
LB Terrell Lewis
LB Brandon Smith
DT Noah Elliss
DB Mekhi Garner
DB Mario Goodrich
WR Jacob Harris
WR Griffin Hebert
TE Noah Togiai
RB Tyrion Davis-Price
