Deshaun Watson Could Reunite With His Former Clemson Hero Wide Receiver Teammate

Deshaun Watson is going into a very critical year heading into his third season with the Cleveland Browns, and he hasn’t done anything in his first two seasons with the team.

Deshaun Watson Has To Figure It Out In Year Three
Watson has only played in 12 games in two seasons due to an eleven-game suspension in 2022 and a shoulder injury. That only saw him make six starts in 2023.

Deshaun Watson Could Reunite With His Former Clemson Hero Wide Receiver Teammate

If Deshaun Watson doesn’t live up to the hype this upcoming season, the Browns will have a huge issue. They guaranteed Watson 230 million dollars two years ago, and they would still have two years of guaranteed money to give him.

The Browns traded for Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy last week, giving Watson another weapon this season. Watson could also reunite with a former teammate from his college days at Clemson.

Cleveland Browns Might Want Hunter Renfrow
Zac Jackson from The Athletic states, “The Browns will at least discuss adding Hunter Renfrow.“

Renfrow has been in the NFL the past five seasons and has sept everyone with the Las Vegas Raiders. Renfrow had a great season in 2021, having 103 receptions, 1,038 yards, and nine touchdowns, but the Raiders went out and traded for star wide receiver Davante Adams after the 2021 season, and Renfrow had to take a step back to him.

Renfrow has only had 585 yards and two touchdowns in 27 games the last two seasons and was released by the Raiders on Wednesday.

Watson and Renfrow go way back to when they shared the field at Clemson, and Renfrow caught the game-winning touchdown against Alabama to win the 2016 National Championship.

Browns Current Wide Receiver Room
If the Browns were to sign Renfrow, he would likely be the fourth or fifth wide receiver going into training camp. Cleveland already has Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, Elijah Moore, and 2023 third-rounder Cedric Tillman, who saw a good amount of action late in the year, and star tight end David Njoku, who will take targets away from the entire receiving room.

It would be good to bring Renfrow if he would come to Cleveland. The Browns still need some receiver depth, and Watson knows him very well, so if Watson is struggling during the season, maybe the Browns could send out Renfrow and see if the relationship between the two can settle him down.
