The Denver Broncos made a surprising move earlier this week when they let All-Pro safety Justin Simmons go. He is easily one of their best players in the last ten years and will always be remembered as a Bronco.

But they have something else in mind. The Broncos have moved on from some great players and are moving in a new direction. They made another move this week, too, which came on Saturday.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Denver Broncos and safety P.J. Locke have agreed to a two-year deal worth up to $9 million.

Locke has been Simmons’ backup for some time and has occasionally filled in in that starting position. The Broncos believe that after having him behind Simmons, one of the best safeties in the league, Locke has developed into a cheaper starter.

And, hey, maybe they know something we don’t know. Locke started eight games for the Broncos last season and had five passes defended and one interception.

Either way, it’s clear they are moving in a different direction.
