Darius Slay reacts to potential reunion with ex-Lions teammate

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay is all for a reunion with safety Quandre Diggs.

The Seattle Seahawks released Diggs earlier this week, a move that was strictly made for salary cap reasons.

Seattle is hoping to re-sign Diggs on a smaller deal, but if they don’t, then he will hit the open market and have the choice to sign with any team when free agency kicks off on Monday, March 11.

The Eagles, who have a need at safety, could be a potential landing spot for Diggs and Slay made it obvious that he is on board with reuniting with his former Detriot Lions teammate.

Following the news of Diggs’ release, a fan posted a photoshopped picture of Slay and Diggs on X/Twitter with the caption: “Time for the reunion.”

Slay commented with a few eyeball emojis, hinting that he agreed.

Before both were eventually traded to other teams, Diggs and Slay played five seasons together in Detroit from 2015 to 2019.

This isn’t the first time the pair recruited one another.

Diggs, 31, pushed for Slay to join the Seahawks last offseason amid trade rumors. But the Eagles ultimately signed Slay to a two-year extension.

Diggs was a sixth-round pick out of Texas by the Lions in the 2015 NFL Draft. Through nine seasons so far, he’s totaled 580 tackles, 56 pass deflections and 24 interceptions.

He’s also earned three Pro Bowl nods, with his most recent one coming in 2022.

Although Diggs did not live up to his Pro Bowl hype in 2023, he still managed 95 tackles, five pass breakups and one interception in 17 games, which is more than what a majority of Eagles safeties had to offer.
