Cleveland Browns star Nick Chubb being healthy at the start of the 2024 season isn’t a guarantee.
Though he is progressing, Chubb still has a long way to go before he is the same tough runner that carried Cleveland’s offense on his back for the previous three seasons.
In the meantime, the Browns have to be in the market for a serviceable running back. And a name that should be on the Browns’ shortlist is Philadelphia Eagles running back D’Andrew Swift.
Recently, Bleacher Report put together a list of running backs and their ideal landing spot. Swift was listed as the No. 1 running back, and Cleveland was placed as the top team to watch, and for good reason.
Swift is 25 years old and he may have just played the best season of his career. He rushed for a career-high 1,049 yards, adding 39 catches for 214 yards and totaling six touchdowns.
With Swift set to hit the free agent market, a return to Philadephia isn’t completely out of the cards. But the Eagles traded for Swift because the front office elected not to pay Miles Sanders. It was a move that worked out for the better in that case.
The running back market has been notoriously slow. The Browns also have a lion-share of cap problems to work through. However, a move for Swift would make sense. Cleveland needs a lead running back because Chubb remains an unknown. Swift can be that. He can also be a change-of-pace running back if Chubb returns.
A one or two-year deal around $10 million to $12 million could make sense for the Browns and Swift. And who is to say it wouldn’t be a match made in heaven? Not Andrew Berry.
