Former Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead has once again entered free agency following a two-season stint with the New York Jets. His departure from the Buccaneers, with whom he helped secure a Super Bowl victory in 2020, left many fans feeling disheartened.
Whitehead posted a few different clips to his Twitter account recently showing his capabilities defensively, and interestingly enough, a good chunk of them feature him in a Buccaneers uniform:

In the comments, many Buccaneers fans are expressing their affection for the former Buccaneers, with some passionately urging him to consider a return to Tampa Bay. And it’s not just the fans — even one of the team’s current players, running back Rachaad White, joined the conversation.

Add the Bucs first-round pick this past draft, Calijah Kancey, to the list of players urging a comeback for Jordan Whitehead. Even though Kancey and Whitehead didn’t play together in Tampa, both played college football at Pitt.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers tried several players at the position formerly held by Whitehead, seeking a suitable match for their defensive strengths in the secondary. Whitehead proved to be a vital asset, seamlessly meshing with the secondary and excelling in various aspects of Todd Bowles’ defense. His versatility shines as he handles coverage, demonstrates exceptional run defense, and even showed his effectiveness in blitzing when called upon.
Teams in need of safeties find themselves in a favorable position as free agency approaches, with a lot of choices available. However, this results from the contracts of numerous outstanding players expiring or them being released. If the Buccaneers are in search of a safety, considering the path of familiarity and potentially bringing Whitehead back to Tampa Bay could be a smart move.
