The Washington Commanders continued to rebuild their roster, this time focusing on special teams for the second time since the legal tampering period began on Monday.

The Commanders agreed to terms with veteran long-snapper Tyler Ott. Ott, 32, spent last season with the Baltimore Ravens after spending the previous seven years with the Seattle Seahawks. Before arriving in Seattle, Ott spent time with the Patriots, Rams, Giants and Bengals for parts of three seasons.

New Washington special teams coach Larry Izzo coached Ott in Seattle, where he made the Pro Bowl in 2020.

An undrafted free agent in the 2014 NFL draft, Ott played collegiately at Harvard.

The 6-foot-3, 253-pound Ott is a native of Jenks, Oklahoma.

Washington began having snapping issues in training camp last season when third-year long snapper Camaron Cheeseman began experimenting with different grips, and struggles followed him throughout training camp. Despite those issues, former coach Ron Rivera stuck with Cheeseman until it finally cost Washington. The Commanders released Cheeseman in December after he botched two snaps — one on a punt and an extra point.

Washington signed Tucker Addington to be the long snapper for the remainder of the season.
