Chiefs set to lose L’Jarius Sneed in blow to Super Bowl three-peat bid

The Indianapolis Colts are closing in on a trade for Kansas City Chiefs defensive star L’Jarius Sneed – who was franchise tagged by the reigning Super Bowl champions

How Kansas City Chiefs CB L'Jarius Sneed is honoring his late brother

The Kansas City Chiefs might be saying goodbye to a big player who helped them win the Super Bowl.

The Indianapolis Colts want to sign defensive star L’Jarius Sneed. ATOZ SPORTS claims that the Colts and the Chiefs are nearly done making a huge trade for Sneed. The deal could include the Colts’ third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and another pick in 2025.

The report also says that the Colts have had their eye on Sneed all season. They wanted to get him as a free agent until the Chiefs decided to keep him for another year. Kansas City would have liked to get a second-round pick for Sneed in 2024, but other teams didn’t want to because he will probably command a huge salary.

Sneed insisted he wanted to stay with the Chiefs and win more Super Bowl trophies. “Two is legendary, but three? You never get tired of getting rings,” Sneed said. “Hopefully I’m with the Chiefs. Hopefully, I’m still here and we can go back and repeat.”

The Colts are excited to welcome a top defensive star who shone in 2023. He grabbed two interceptions during the regular season and was tough in coverage, not letting anyone score a touchdown against him. In the playoffs, he made 17 tackles, helping the Chiefs get all the way to Super Bowl LVIII. There, they won against the San Francisco 49ers with a thrilling 25-22 overtime victory.

Sneed might miss out on chasing another Super Bowl win, but Kansas City’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes is all in for making history. “It [would be] legendary,” Mahomes said. “No one’s ever done it, and we knew it’s legendary to win back-to-back.

“I think eight other teams have done it. We had heard it all week. We had talked to the guys [who had gone back-to-back] about it, and we felt like we had the best opportunity that we had ever had to go out there and do that. We’ve got to continue to play our best football. We’ll celebrate these next few weeks, and then we’ll get right back at it.”

NFL teams will start their training camps around late July and keep going until mid-August. The games will kick off in September.

Kansas City has already found out who they’ll be playing at home in the regular season. They’re set to face the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans.

Matches will also be played on the road against teams like the Broncos, Chargers, Raiders, Steelers, Browns, Falcons, Panthers, Bills, and the 49ers.
