The Kansas City Chiefs have long been known for their high-powered offenses, but this past season, the Chiefs won a Super Bowl on the strength of their defense.
However, Kansas City has numerous key defensive players who will probably be departing this offseason, so the club could use some reinforcements.
That’s why Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has listed the Chiefs as the top destination for Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White, who is slated to hit free agency next week.
White is coming off of a rather disappointing 2023 campaign in which he played 14 games and logged 83 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a couple of interceptions and six passes defended, but he was hampered by a foot injury and probably isn’t declining just yet.
After all, White is still just 26 years old and is two years removed from rattling off 124 tackles, 5.5 sacks, a pair of forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and five passes defended.
The Springhill, La. native, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was selected by the Buccaneers with the fifth overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.
He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, registering 91 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a pick, three forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns.
White then broke out in his sophomore year, racking up 140 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Somehow, White didn’t make the Pro Bowl that season, but he did earn a trip the following year after finishing with 128 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.
When healthy, White is clearly productive and would be a welcomed addition to any team’s linebacking corps, including Kansas City’s.
We’ll see if the Chiefs try and make a play for White this month.
