Cleveland Browns are always active in free agency under the current regimen and that should be the case again this offseason.
Interestingly enough, the Browns have been linked to a stud defensive tackle that is expected to hit the market. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Browns could potentially be suitors for the services of Miami Dolphins DT Christian Wilkins.
Wilkins is expected to avoid the franchise tag and will be one of the more sought-after free agents on the market, according to Fowler.
“Houston is intriguing here. The Texans have ample cap space, a quarterback early on a rookie deal, and a playoff roster. There would be several teams in the mix, though. The Browns are always good for a splash or two, for instance. Would they strengthen an already stout defense with the versatile DT?” – Jeremy Fowler, ESPN
One of the better defensive tackles in the game, Wilkins posted a career-high 9.0 sacks in 2023 to go along with a forced fumble and 65 tackles. Wilkins has spent the first five years of his career with the Dolphins since he was a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Clemson. Wilkins was teammates with Browns QB Deshaun Watson while with the Tigers.
Wilkins would play inside alongside Dalvin Tomlinson and within a defensive line that features the Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. Cleveland has a question to answer on the EDGE position opposite of Garrett, but adding Wilkins would make a very good defense even better.
It wouldn’t be cheap, but Andrew Berry has taken some big swings as the general manager of the Browns. It looks like we could already have a name to watch.
