The Chicago Bears need to add some weapons for whoever will be playing quarterback for them in 2024, and wide receiver Mike Evans could be theirs for the taking.
Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network predicts that the Bears will sign Evans in free agency, which would give Chicago one of the most lethal receiving duos in football with Evans and D.J. Moore.
The Bears are blessed with considerable cap room going into the offseason, so they will certainly have the financial wherewithal to sign Evans.
Of course, Evans would probably prefer to either remain with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or sign with a contender, but Chicago could be an interesting team next season with the right moves.
Obviously, the Bears need to get things sorted out under center. It’s looking more and more like Chicago will trade Justin Fields and then take USC’s Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft in April, but we still don’t know for sure what the organization will do just yet.
The picture for the Bears will probably become a bit clearer at the Scouting Combine next week, but until then, everyone is still kind of in the dark in terms of what Chicago’s exact direction will be.
But regardless of what the Bears decide to do at signal-caller, they still need pieces.
Outside of Moore and tight end Cole Kmet, Chicago does not exactly have a ton of options in its passing game. Adding Evans, however, would change that.
Evans is coming off of a spectacular 2023 campaign in which he hauled in 79 receptions for 1,255 yards and a league-leading 13 touchdowns en route to his fifth Pro Bowl selection.
The 30-year-old has spent his entire 10-year career with the Buccaneers and has posted over 1,000 yards in all 10 of his seasons, marking an NFL record.
While he may be aging, Evans has shown no signs of slowing down, and playing alongside of a receiver like Moore would certainly take a lot of pressure off of him.
We’ll see if the Bears try to make a play for Mike Evans in the coming weeks.
