Broncos named ‘best fit’ for former Comeback Player of the Year

The NFL’s quarterback carousel has made its rounds with several veterans finding their homes for the 2024 season. However, a former Comeback Player of the Year remains on the market over a week removed from the start of free agency.

Broncos named 'best fit' for former Comeback Player of the Year

That player is former Titans QB Ryan Tannehill. His best days are clearly behind him after being benched for Will Levis in 2023, but the 2019 NFL Comeback Player of the Year could still provide some much-needed experience for a franchise.

NFL.com’s Nick Shook believes the Broncos would be the “best fit” for the 35-year-old.

“Jarrett Stidham is on the roster and started the final two games in 2023, but unless Sean Payton sees something the rest of us don’t, I can’t anticipate that Stidham will be the answer for all of 2024,” Shook writes. “A union between Denver and Tannehill, who still was decent when asked to step in even after losing his job to Will Levis in Tennessee, seems like a safe, wise move for both parties.”

The only quarterbacks that the Broncos have under contract for 2024 are Stidham and Ben DiNucci, who have a combined 19 games played in their NFL careers.

Tannehill has certainly started to show his age, throwing for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions in 10 games last season. But he could be the bridge quarterback that Denver needs.

The 2024 NFL Draft is rich with quarterback talent and the Broncos could very well use their first-round pick (No. 12) on one.

Barring a trade-up, though, Denver won’t end up with one of the top three or four quarterback prospects. So, adding a veteran like Tannehill would allow a second-tier rookie to sit and learn until they are ready.

Adding Tannehill isn’t a flashy move, but it is one that feels valuable and cost-effective He is expected to receive a one-year, $4.9 million contract, per Spotrac.
