Where D’Angelo Russell ranks in all-time Lakers 3-point shots made

D’Angelo Russell entered the 2023-24 season as the most polarizing player on the Los Angeles Lakers roster. Russell will leave the season as the record holder for most three-pointers made in a single season in Lakers history.

Russell made his 183rd shot from beyond the arc to officially tie Nick Van Exel for the most three-pointers made in a single season for the Lakers. Barring the worst cold streak of his career or an injury that results in him missing the rest of the season, Russell will be alone in the Lakers’ history books.

With 13 games remaining, Russell not only has the chance to cushion his lead atop the franchise list but also has a chance to climb in the all-time franchise rankings. There have not been very many sharpshooters in Lakers history and Russell is already one of the best.

Where does D’Angelo Russell rank in 3-point shots made for the Lakers?

Russell’s 183rd three-pointer made this season was the 494th that he made while wearing the purple and gold. This great season from beyond the arc propelled Russell into the franchise’s top-10 list and could lead to him climbing several more spots this season.

1. Kobe Bryant

2. Derek Fisher

3. LeBron James

4. Nick Van Exel

7. Kyle Kuzma

8. D’Angelo Russell

494

9. Eddie Jones

10. Rick Fox

Russell has made the eighth-most 3-pointers in franchise history and it has only taken him 224 games to do so. At his current pace this season, Russell can expect to climb two more spots on the all-time list.

If Russell continues his pace of 2.9 threes made per game, and plays every remaining game for the Lakers, then he will finish the 2023-24 season with 531 three-pointers made. If Russell sticks around for the 2024-25 season then he will undoubtedly pass Rick Fox for fifth all-time in franchise history.

What is the most three-point shots D’Angelo Russell has made in a season?

D’Angelo Russell’s career-high in three-point shots made in a season is 234. This came in Russell’s lone all-star season with the Brooklyn Nets when he was just 22 years old.

As it stands right now, Russell has made the third-most three-pointers in a season in his career with the purple and gold. At his current pace, Russell is projected to fall just short of his career high with 230 three-pointers made this season.

That being said, setting a new career high is still in range for the young point guard and could happen if he gets hot from beyond the arc to close out the season. If Russell was to finish with a career-high 235 three-pointers made it still would not rank very high on the NBA’s all-time list and would tie him for 50th with former Laker Malik Beasley.

The NBA record for most three-pointers made in a single season is 402, which was accomplished by Stephen Curry during the 2015-16 season.
