Browns New QB Jameis Winston Says He’s Still Eating Ws

Jameis Winston has become quite the character during his nine years in the NFL, getting caught on multiple occasions delivering elaborate and corky pre-game speeches to his teammates.

Browns New QB Jameis Winston Says He's Still Eating Ws

One of his most viral moments of all came in 2017 when Winston was with the Buccaneers. During a pre-game speech, Jameis formed a ‘W’ with his hand and started pretending to eat it. That is not a typo. Don’t believe me? Watch for yourself.

The clip took the internet by storm and it has followed Jameis around everywhere he has gone. He has explained that when he was a child, he would eat the ‘W’s’ in his alphabet soup last and that you can’t spell Winston with W-I-N. Jameis is full of one-liners and as much an entertainer as he is a quarterback.

On Wednesday, Jameis was introduced as a Cleveland Brown, and went on the rounds with the local sports media. That included a stop on the Browns radio affiliate 92.3 the fans where he was asked whether or not he still eats W’s and what do they taste like? Winston had a perfect response.

Browns fans are just getting introduced to Winston the NFL QB and person. It’s been well-documents from his stops in Tampa Bay and New Orleans though, that he’s considered an incredible teammate. His former teammates always speak very highly of him.

Jameis the quarterback can be a bit streaky. When he is hot, he is arguably a top QB in the league. When he is cold though, things couldn’t look much worse. It’s only been five seasons since Winston led the NFL in passing yards with 5,109 yards, 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.

Since becoming a backup in New Orleans, his best season came in 2021 when he appeared in seven games and finished with 14 touchdowns to three interceptions for 1,170 yards.

If he can deliver more of the good than the bad he has a chance to be a serviceable backup to Deshaun Watson and his teammates will be eating a ton of Ws in 2024.
