The conversation for the best point guard of all time is still open. The basketball world is witnessing Stephen Curry take the game to a different level with his play. He is definitely in the conversation of one of the greatest point guards in the history of the league. However, another Hall of Fame point guard, Isiah Thomas, believes that he has the edge over Curry in the conversation of the all-time great point guard.
Isiah Thomas was a guest on Draymond Green ‘s podcast, The Draymond Green Show. Green asked Thomas about what he felt about the all-time great point guard conversation.
Steph comes off screens, he catches, and he shoots. He’s one of the greatest shooter ever. I won a different way. I may be the only one who’s done this, as a point guard. Where I led my team in scoring, and assists, to back-to-back championships. Thomas said
Thomas added that nowadays the NBA has transitioned to a more positionless game. This has brought out more point guard qualities in Draymond Green rather than Stephen Curry.

Isiah Thomas dropped his name in the conversation of the all-time great point guard. He feels that since he led his team in both points and assists, that makes his case strong. Thomas and the Detroit Pistons won 2 back-to-back NBA titles, with him leading the attack.
Stephen Curry, on the other hand, has been one of the greatest scorers in league history. But he has not taken the point guard position literally. Thomas feels Curry is not the main playmaker of the Golden State Warriors. Rather, it is Green through whom the Warriors offense runs.
Stephen Curry vs. Isiah Thomas for all-time great point guard
Stephen Curry has changed the game of basketball since he came into the league in 2009. His ability to score from anywhere on the court has transformed how his opponents have to guard him. Curry has made the 3-point shot his own by continuing to be the all-time leader in 3-point shots made. His clutch performances for the Golden State Warriors have helped the team to 4 NBA titles in 9 seasons.
Isiah Thomas, on the other hand, was a true point guard. One who has to facilitate and score for his Detroit Pistons to win. Thomas consistently led his team in both departments throughout his 13 seasons in the league. Thomas’ playmaking, as well as scoring, helped the Pistons to win 2 consecutive titles. Another strong point in Thomas’ resume is his defense. Known for his gritty nature, Thomas would lock down the perimeter.
So, the odds are stacked against each other here. Stephen Curry might have revolutionized the game of basketball with his scoring, but Isiah Thomas feels, his points, assists and defense make the case for him to be the all-time great point guard.
