Commanders Free Agency: Bengals’ Jonah Williams to Washington?

The Washington Commanders now have a hole at left tackle, but there are guys they could target in free agency to quickly fill the gap.

Bengals suddenly have very good Jonah Williams problem on their hands

INDIANAPOLIS — The Washington Commanders made moves during NFL Scouting Combine week, and not just the ones made within the confines of the Indiana Convention Center.

Releasing offensive tackle Charles Leno Jr. may have freed up some cap space for the Commanders, but it also created a hole in their offensive line.

We know Leno wasn’t the best left tackle in the league recently, but he certainly wasn’t the worst, so for Washington, the task now is ensuring the successor improves upon the predecessor.

Fortunately for them, there are options on the free agency market who can replace him, including Cincinnati Bengals tackle Jonah Williams.

Williams entered the league as a left tackle in 2020, enjoyed playing the position, and wanted to continue doing so so badly that when the Bengals brought in a new one and moved him to the right side he asked for a trade.

Ultimately, Williams relented and played over 1,000 snaps for Cincinnati on the right side, but with free agency approaching it would make sense if he went out looking to move back with a new team.

If he’s willing to play either side it helps the Commanders by signing a proven player with versatility who could stick around for a while and not pigeonhole the team into a specific type of prospect in April’s NFL Draft.
