Report: Broncos Meet With Top QB Prospects During NFL Combine

With the 2024 NFL Combine underway, we’re finally beginning to hear some rumblings about how teams have been going about scouting for this spring’s draft. One team that’s generated some buzz over the week has been the Denver Broncos, thanks to their meticulous pursuit of finding a new man under center.

According to a report from Mike Klis of 9News, the Broncos opted to meet with each of this year’s top quarterback prospects at this year’s combine, including the projected top pick, USC’s Caleb Williams.ư

Report: Broncos Meet With Top QB Prospects During NFL Combine

According to multiple league sources, the Broncos held formal interviews this week with not just the previously reported likes of J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr., but the ‘Big Three’ of Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye. The Broncos also held a formal interview this week with Spencer Rattler and were scheduled to get in front of Tulane’s Michael Pratt. In all, the Broncos conducted formal interviews, 18 minutes in length, with 45 draftable prospects this week at the NFL Combine. Quarterbacks took up their share of interview slots.”

While it’s no secret the Broncos are in the market for a quarterback, the emphasis they’ve placed on the position early on in the draft process effectively shows their urgency and aggressiveness in finding a replacement for Russell Wilson.

After two discouraging years in Denver, the 9x Pro Bowler is highly unlikely to be back for a third in 2024, with the team in all likelihood expected to cut him in the coming weeks. The next move for Denver now shifts towards finding a young, high-ceiling prospect to take charge of the offense to build and mesh a bit better with Sean Payton going into his second year at the helm of the Broncos.

As it stands, the Broncos hold control of the 12th overall selection in this year’s draft, but could very well look into the possibility of trading up on the board to secure the guy they want leading their quarterback position moving forward. It’s a bit of a pipe dream to expect Denver to get their hands on a number one prospect like Williams this year, but this front office is doing their due diligence on every option available regardless.

As the NFL Draft inches closer, expect to hear some increasing chatter on what the plans are for the Broncos come late April.
