Former Super Bowl champion drops bold Steelers, Russell Wilson take

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked with multiple quarterbacks as of late, including Denver Broncos passer Russell Wilson.

Wilson is reportedly expected to be cut by the Broncos in March, which comes on the heels of a roller-coaster second season in Denver. Wilson was ultimately benched by the team over the latter stages of the 2023 campaign.

The Steelers have emerged as a possible landing spot for Wilson. They currently hold the best odds (-250) to soon bring in the nine-time Pro Bowler.

Former Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Victor Cruz is among those who believe that Wilson would fit just right in with the Steelers. With Wilson in the fold, Cruz sees that the Steelers would then snap their AFC North title drought.

“Russell Wilson wins the division if he goes to the Steelers next year,” Cruz said.

There are also those who do not want to see Wilson take his talents to Pittsburgh. Among them, Willie Colon has his share of doubt over whether Wilson can be a long-term solution for his former team at the quarterback position.

“Russell Wilson comes with a warning sign, bottom line,” Colon said. “He lacks mobility, he isn’t the same quarterback we saw in Seattle. When he was in Denver, he took a big dip because he lost the locker room.

“However, he’s still a field general. He’s still a guy you can trust. … He can still manage an offense. … He’s not the long-term answer.”

It will be noteworthy to see whether Steelers general manager Omar Khan will make any push to sign Wilson should the veteran passer hit free agency next month.
