The Cleveland Browns’ 2023 season was a wild one that ended with Joe Flacco being the quarterback for the final stretch of the season.
No one saw that coming and a recent reaction from TE David Njoku further shows that.
Njoku appeared on Chris Long’s Green Light podcast and shared his first impression of Flacco joining Cleveland.
“I saw on Instagram that we got him, then I saw him in the training room. I kind of sized him up, he was on the Ravens for so many years. I think my rookie year he beat me, I had to make sure wasn’t an undercover opp,” Njoku said laughing.

Flacco was the fourth quarterback to start for the Browns in 2023, a season where they started five of them total. Flacco went 4-1 for the Browns in the regular season, before the gas ran out and they lost to the Houston Texans in the wild card.
With the Browns, Flacco ignited the passing offense with 13 touchdown passes and 323 passing yards a game. The turnover issue was real with eight in those five games, then two pick-sixes in the playoff game. Still, the veteran quarterback gave the Browns everything they could have asked for with little time to prepare.
“He was awesome, he was a blessing for sure,” explained Njoku. “The chemistry happened just like that. It was almost like I knew when he was throwing it to me before the ball was even snapped.”
Flacco wasn’t a to continue playing and his next destination is unknown as a free agent. If it was up to Njoku, he would be sticking around.
“We definitely had fun, man. I hope he stays in Cleveland.”
