Buccaneers reportedly hiring Georgia’s Bryan McClendon as their new wide receivers coach

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dipped into the SEC to land fill one of their most important coaching vacancies. It looks like they’re doing it again to fill more.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bucs are hiring Georgia wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Bryan McClendon to become their new wide receivers coach.

McClendon replaces Brad Idzik, who left to take the offensive coordinator job in Carolina under new head coach Dave Canales.

McClendon has extensive experience at the college level with the majority of it taking place in Athens, Georgia. He served as a graduate assistant, running backs coach, and wide receivers coach with Georgia under Mark Richt from 2007-2015. He then became the wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator in South Carolina from 2016-2019. After spending two years in Oregon, he returned to Georgia as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator for the last two seasons.

McClendon isn’t the only coach added to the staff from the SEC on Saturday, as Schefter notes. The Bucs are also hiring Brian Picucci from Kentucky as their new assistant offensive line coach, the same school from which it landed new offensive coordinator Liam Coen.
