NFL Reporter Provides Major Injury Update On Kirk Cousins

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered a torn Achilles back in Week 8, an injury that is well-known for having a brutal recovery period.

But apparently, Cousins is making great progress, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL media.

“Cousins is gonna turn 36 before next season. He is coming off that ruptured Achilles. I’m told, though, he’s ahead of schedule in his recovery,” Pelissero reported. “… He’s actually going to be throwing before the combine next month, so everything is tracking in a good direction for Kirk Cousins to be fully ready to roll for the Vikings, or whoever he might be with in 2024.”

Before going down with the injury this past season, Cousins was brilliant, having thrown for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 69.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 103.8.

The veteran is slated to hit free agency this March, and while most are assuming he will return to the Vikings, there is no guarantee that happens.

Should Cousins move on, he would have no shortage of potential suitors, especially considering that he is evidently doing very well in his rehabilitation.

Cousins has spent the last six seasons in Minnesota, making three trips to the Pro Bowl. However, he has been unable to lead the Vikings past the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Ironically enough, the last time Minnesota made it to the NFC Championship Game was the year before Cousins arrived.

The Michigan State product was originally selected by the Washington Redskins in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He spent his first three seasons backing up Robert Griffin III but became the club’s full-time starter in 2015. He resided in Washington for six years overall, making one Pro Bowl before signing with the Vikings in 2018.

We’ll see where Kirk Cousins ends up in 2024.
