3 players Saints could put on the trade block during the 2024 NFL Draft

As the NFL Draft approaches, and teams look to make moves, here are three players that could be on the trade block for the New Orleans Saints on draft night.

The New Orleans Saints haven’t been afraid to make big moves during the NFL Draft in recent years. They have shown a willingness to trade players to move up picks. In 2023, New Orleans traded tight end, Adam Trautman, to move up in the sixth round. It is possible that they could do a similar move this year. Here are three options that the Saints could put on the trade block during the NFL Draft.

1. CB Marshon Lattimore

Injury roundup: Saints CB Marshon Lattimore, WR Chris Olave both expected to play vs. Eagles

A trade involving Marshon Lattimore has been rumored for a while now. If Lattimore is traded, his loss would immediately be felt. For this trade to happen, the Saints would need two things. First, the compensation would need to be at a level that the Saints like. They don’t have to trade Marshon Lattimore, the conflict isn’t to the point that he is asking for a trade or needs to get out. With this, the Saints can take their time to find a trade if they decide to trade him.

The second thing that the Saints would need is to feel comfortable with their depth behind Lattimore. Paulson Adebo and Alontae Taylor are both great players. You can count on them to be your first two cornerbacks if Lattimore does get traded. With the departure of Isaac Yiadom, the Saints would have to feel comfortable with the talent that they already have or the talent they could find in the draft / free agency.

With a rumor surrounding the former All-Pro cornerback for a while now, Marshon Lattimore could be on the trade block during the NFL Draft. We will have to see if something comes to fruition but no matter what, the loss of Marshon Lattimore would hurt this Saints secondary. However, if the Saints get solid compensation and feel comfortable with the talent they could get, it could be an option for them.

2. RB Jamaal Williams

Another player who could be on the trade block during the NFL Draft is Jamaal Williams. Williams burst onto the scene in the NFL following the 2022 season. In that season, he ran for 1,066 and 17 touchdowns. After this incredible season, Williams signed a contract with New Orleans. Last year, he rushed for only 306 yards and one touchdown in 106 carries. Williams still has plenty of talent but it is unclear his future in New Orleans.

If Jamaal Williams does stay in New Orleans, he will have an impact. It’s just whether the Saints feel like they can get more out of him or a draft pick. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, will implement a zone running scheme into their offense. Williams could succeed in this system but it favors the skills of Alvin Kamara and Kendre Miller much more. With both of those players moving above him it could be hard for him to find a workload that he desires.

If the Saints do ship of Williams then they need to invest in the halfback position again. There are plenty of options in the NFL Draft who would be able to fill in. This option is definitely on the table, it is just how much do the Saints value Jamaal Williams going into next year.

3. Defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon

Tanoh Kpassagnon is a player who isn’t as widely known in the NFL as the other two players previously mentioned but is still one who the Saints could ship off. The defensive end room is fairly crowded for the Saints currently, and they still could be looking to add that position. Players such as Chase Young, Cameron Jordan, Carl Granderson, Isaiah Foskey, and Payton Turner all have a chance to play above Kpassagnon. If the Saints feel comfortable with the room they could send off Kpassagnon to try to move up.

In 2023, Tanoh Kpassagnon ended the season with 3.5 total sacks. This wasn’t a bad season for him. Kpassagnon has been on the Saints for three years, he previously played with the Kansas City Chiefs before that. Teams know what they are getting with Tanoh Kpassagnon, there aren’t a lot of surprises that come with him. He is consistent and does his job well when he gets his opportunities. A team needing an edge rusher could see that and be interested in trading for him.

A trade for Tanoh Kpassagnon during the NFL Draft is a move that wouldn’t be unrealistic. If the Saints desire to and feel comfortable with the development of players at the position, Kpassagnon could be on the move.
